Tournament Detroit River
Due to the ice flows in the Detroit River, the tournament was moved to the Illinois River. John finished a dismal 107th place. He was keyed on the Detroit River, but it was not to be. Not to be discouraged, he moved on to Lake Sharpe.

Tournament Lake Sharpe
After a few good days of prefishing, the cold front came in the day before the tournament. The fish turned off. The little ones were everywhere, but where were the ones that were biting only yesterday? Most everyone had a tough time. John came through the next day, however. With a good first tournament day down the river, John was happy. He did have concerns making it down and back with his 250hp Mercury OptiMax racing engine. The Merc guys came through with a prop that gave him just enough mpg to make it. The second day, the wind picked up and despite the greater worry, he got back and made the cut for day 3. Sitting in 13th after day 3 meant his tournament was over, but he netted $5,429. Boat control, as well as locating larger fish was key. My prefishing days with John showed just how important boat control was. To compete, you gotta have excellent boat control. Way to go, John.

Tournament Lake Erie
Another off tournament, he placed 71st. Authors note; sometimes it only takes one fish to move on. He was actually much closer than 71st place indicates.

Tournament Devils Lake
Chalk up another nice showing for John. 5th place for $12,500. That puts John in 12th place overall and on to the Mississippi River!
